First, read your assignment carefully to see what would qualify as a good topic for this project. If you can, choose a topic you find interesting. 
 
Find out how others have written about your topic. Resources they have used will likely be helpful.  
 
A common problem is narrowing down a topic. If your topic is too broad, you may find too many sources that don't seem to have much to do with each other.
